Iomega 8x4x32

My friend has the same burner as me the Iomega 8x4x32, but for some reason he can burn at 8x but I can't. I can only burn at 4x, even though i have 8 selected. Can anyone help me out, would be much appreciated.

I am not familiar with Iomega. The HP one at the office has the option to test media before burning. If you use good quality media does it burn at 8X? If so maybe turn the test off on the lower grade to get the higher speed.

Hey, it is an Iomega. Be thankful it works at all.

There are a thousand possible answers to your question, e.g. if your friend has a Pentium 1.7 Ghz and you have a 486-33, that might have something to do with it. If your friend buys high quality TDK CDRs while you get those bargain CDRs for a nickel apiece, that could be another factor.

Are you both copying CDs from another CDROM drive? If so, your CDROM may be too slow, especially if you are copying audio CDs. I recently bought a Teac 540e CDROM, which is great if you want to do direct CD to CD copying.

Here is Iomega's support page for your drive. Make sure you have installed any
software patches for your drive. Many of these tips from Plextor will also apply to your drive.

If you give us more specifics about your hardware and software, we might be able to offer more advice. But, try the above and see where that gets you.
