Fro a long time there was this big thing about always making sure your salt was iodized in case of emergency... but i never really knew why...

was this a first aid thing or a nuclear fallout thing....

anyone remember?

no...iodized salt prvents goiters. a lack of iodine in your diet used to cause goiters.

so its not to protect your thyroid in case of nuclear attack?

Iodine is an essential nutrient, and lots of people eating heavily processed foods grown from sapped soils weren't getting enough, so they started selling iodized salt. Similar to Vitamin D milk.

Hmmm...I switched long ago to non-iodized sea salt that I have in a mill...am I going to get goiters now? 😉

Why the winky face football-neck? Woe to those who have to touch you when you're 70, let alone look at you. Goiters are fvcking nasty.
