Invoice Pricing?

Is there anyway to find out invoice price for a vehicle given the way its optioned without talking to a dealer? I've been to some of the various auto shopping websites and they seem to usually have an average invoice price, but not a way to say if a vehicle is configured with specific options what it would be.

I can get a discount on the vehicle I'm looking at of 1% under invoice but I am still in the researching phase and don't want to go through the hassle of talking to a dealer.

You can always email a dealership's sales manager. That way you only get emails from them, and you answer at your leisure. Just tell them you want to know the specific invoice of a car on their lot.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

Really? Most sites I know allow you to build whatever car and see the invoice on it. Edmunds and Truecar certainly did. Maybe you're just missing the button?

Yep, but if you want the invoice of a car you saw on a lot, then you better take a picture of the sticker so you have all the shipping charges and you get the exact options correct when you're trying to price it online.

The only way you'll see the actual invoice is by looking at the printout from the dealer. Of course them saying 1% below doesn't mean much without knowing which invoice price they are referring to. Last couple I looked at had I believe 5 "invoice prices" on them.

Truecar and Edmunds will give you the "official" invoice, but dealers are often given incentives and bonus money for selling specific models, or for selling x-number of cars in a month by the manufacturer. There are too many variables to know for sure, and they change constantly.

Use the published invoice as the upper limit of what you are willing to pay, and start your negotiation well below the published invoice.

Keep in mind that the only way you are going to consistently get a deal thousands below MSRP (or invoice) is on a car that isn't selling well (Dart, Fiat 500, etc.) or has been over produced and filling up lots (Corolla, Prius, Focus, Civic, etc.)
