Where are you new car buyers getting your invoice prices from? I know there are several sources available. Wondering which was worth the cost. Thank you.

You can get the "invoice" price of most cars at Edmunds.com and many other sites. Use Google ... it's your friend.

BTW, the "invoice" price is basically a price the manufacturer has stated that it costs to produce the vehicle, as opposed to MSRP which is a fictional number that they make up to "suggest" what price the vehicle should sell for.

invoice and cost are not the same. even when a dealer sells a car at invoice (and sometimes below invoice) they are still making money with dealer holdbacks and manf. incentives.

I just got a huge Consumer Reports magazine which has invoice prices for apparently everything, in every trim level. I'm not really interested in CR's commentary personally, but my Dad is in the market for likely his last new car and it's nice to be able to browse so many cars so easily. I think the magazine was around $10 at a grocery store.

Don't they usually calculate the MSRP based on a % of the invoice price consistently through each option? For instance, option A is $910 invoice so with a 9.9% markup it comes out to $1000 MSRP (as stated). Option B is the same 9.9% markup and so on. That's how it was for my car - every option was the same % markup without fail.

There is still dealer holdback and other things. Invoice is a good starting point now, but you still can't beat checking out another dealer or two.
