For some reason when I'm doing quoted replies, if I move the cursor from the end location it goes invisible. Anyone else having this problem? On ie9 with everything up to date that I can think of.

I don't suppose you could throw together a small video or something? I can't reproduce this, but I'm not sure I'm doing what you're doing.

I get the same thing too...didn't realize it was just quoted messages.

I am not sure if it happens on my mac, but definitely with my PC at home (4890 graphics card, Phenomx4 955 and IE9).

Let me check, switched cameras in the last year and everything is in HD and haven't yet gotten a video program for the format yet. May have an older cam around somewhere.

I was just thinking of something that recorded the desktop, e.g. FRAPS.

Might be extraneous of the resolution, but could it be the mouse option of "hide pointer while typing" ?

ok this is getting really screwy. tried it in the quick reply box and the cursor wouldn't appear after I started typing. then opened up the quote message reply frame and it worked normally. opened another thread, started typing in the quick reply box and it worked fine. went to do a quoted reply in that thread and had the missing cursor event.

Alright, I think I've reproduced it; thanks Alky. I'm not seeing the cursor disappear entirely, but I am seeing its visual position fail to update when I click to move it. Only when I type does the cursor show itself.

I'll pass this up, but it's probably a fundamental vB bug that can't be fixed on our own.

No problem. Hope the next time my head is up to chop at Mod HQ, my value added comes in to play ;)

I have noticed this same issue on some boards (probably VB), but most I post one are not the same format as here.

i use IE9. in my replies i can't see the blinking cursor if thats what your reffering to. but sometimes i can, like right now its working...but IE9 has several issues for me. like some draw down boxes in forums won't show or just stay open and never close.
ie9 just sucks.

yeah I can agree on IE9 and compatible mode.

However, not sure if that's MS's issue or programmers not keeping up.

I am frequently bedeviled by the dreaded "missing cursor" phenomenon in these forums.

For those of you who are lucky enough to have no idea what I am talking about, basically what happens is that the cursor icon (the vertical bar that shows you where the text is going to go if you press a button on your keyboard) disappears at times when you are attempting to navigate the forum and posting in the quick-response boxes and so on.

When the cursor disappears you can still input text, you just have no visual indication where that text is going to go until you press a key and see what happens. It creates a lot of "trial and error" message drafting.

At any rate I recently came across a possible quick-fix, when the cursor disappears you press "ctrl+F5". Be warned that this will reset your current input box, so copy that message to your clipboard so you can paste it back into the text box before committing the ctrl+F5 command.

Apparently the missing cursor issue has been tracked down to the smilies, specifically the animated ones that show up on the right. When there is an animated smiley there then the cursor issue flares up, as the default smilies rotate around over time there are times when the default smilies do not have an animated one and it is during those times that the cursor behaves just fine.

Issuing the ctrl+F5 command will "Refresh Cached Template Files and reload all forum style files", apparently a temporary fix for the issue.

I verified this resolved my missing cursor situation, no idea how frequently it needs to be done though.

I've had the missing cursor problem on firefox, and I don't see smilies animating on the right; as a matter of fact, I have no idea how people get those smilies into posts.

They go into their usercp and change the Message Editor Interface from Basic to Standard or Enhanced. Try it and see what wonders will unfold for you - well, maybe not wonders, but a lot more stuff. :)

I think it was a false diagnoses because I still have the missing cursor issues despite the "fix".
