Seems promising but any first or second hand accounts of any success/failure stories would help.

For those who don't know - Invisalign

One of my classmates has them and says they work very well, at least for him.

they typically cost double what traditional braces do.

i considered getting them, but based on my hw and what the orthodontist told me, they don't work as well as traditional braces and take longer.

They actually work best only for more minor cases, being too aggressive with using invisalign can in some cases not do anything at all or even make things worse. In my bit of digging on google, there were some patients who complained they wasted the money and it did nothing or even made their situation worse.

Yea, insurance should cover it well atleast part of it.

Find out how much it'll cover. It'll probably cost you ~$5k. My dental plan only covers $1500 a year. I need braces. I'm 24. :(

I have really good insure ance it is not covered as it is cosmetic:(

How can that be? Doesn't it fall under 'orthodontist' category?

I want to get them, but would like to know how much did someone actually pay for them? Monthly payments?
I have Aetna insurance and not sure if they cover such procedures.
I'm 26 and would like to have straight teeth for my college graduation eventually.

My fiance is finishing up her treatment with them. She has been VERY happy with going this route. I'll try to get her to post a few comments in here when she is free from corporate slavery.

I'm actually wearing invisalign aligners right now :) I've had 'em for 3 years now (My teeth were EXTREMELY crooked, I even had a hook tooth). My teeth have completely straightened out now. I am extremely pleased with the results. I ended up needing more aligners than originally planned, but my Orthodontist didn't charge me extra. At this point, we're pretty much just fine tuning my upper teeth.

Pro's

1. Nobody has ever noticed me wearing them
2. Easy to take out/put in when you need to eat/drink
3. You don't need to have as many appointments with the Ortho, as you do with braces
4. Very similar results as traditional braces

Con's
1. The aligners hurt (especially the first time you put one one) for the first few days. After a few days, you're usually fine though.
2. Cost (Make sure you shop around. I got mine for $4200 and that included everything)
3. Cleaning/maintaining the aligners can be a pain sometimes, but you change aligners every 2 weeks so it isn't that bad.
4. In my case, the ortho had to use some sort of disc to create space between my teeth so they could move properly. It hurts like a bitch.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend Invisalign. Ask whatever Ortho you are leaning towards the type of payment plan they can offer. Also check out Invisalign's payment plan on their website.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Quote from my fiance on this one - as taken over AIM:

there are GREAT ppl can't see them - I can eat what I want and I can brush my teeth w/out weird tools ----- but they are braces - so sometimes they hurt & you have to be dedicated to leaving them in - if you are poorly disaplinced then get regular braces

my retainers are basically like these things. the biggest complaint with these is that they dont let air get between my teeth, so that when I talk it sounds like i have a lisp. annoying. i'm not sure if they're exactly the same as my retainers but if they are, the inside ledge doesn't conform exactly to my inner lower gum (as well as inner upper) so that it's sort of an overhang, and it gets annoying on my tongue after a while.

I think I will definately be getting them 1-2 years down the line. I'm too old to be having a metal mouth and i deal with too many new people during the day :D

It worked well for me until I got some work done on my teeth, then the fit was always off and I had to get a new one. Luckily I have great insurance.

Thats not bad $4200 I expected more..

I went to a General Practitioner, and I believe I was his first Invisalign case, so I lucked out.
