I'm working on a research paper on the career of Gaius Marius during the first and second century BC and I came across the word "invidia" which translates to 'jealousy and suspicion of the success of another.'

Probably off topic, but I find it funny that a word so close to Nvidia means something like this. So who's the jealous one, Nvidia or ATI (or someone else)? Why did Nvidia chose a word so close to something like this? Have I totally lost it, and is a lock all but guaranteed? What does everyone think?

Cool. I just learned something :) . It does make sense, as Spanish is one of the closer romance languages to Latin (like Italian, Romanian and French). Come to think of it, that would make invidia/envidia the logical etymological origin of the word 'envy.' Which now seems so obvious that I can't believe I didn't figure that out before!

So was it 3dfx they were jealous of? Hmm....

Weird.. Whats even weirder is that "eighty eye" (or ATI) is a mythical creature that makes really loud swirling noises and breathes out fire, but only when playing games..

;)
