My dad will be retiring in about 5 years. He has some RRSP's and other investments, however, he is looking to do a 5 year investment that will have the greatest return. He is looking for a medium risk investment.

I am thinking of Mutual funds or Income Bonds.

I am not sure what would better suit him though, or if there are some other options like small business venture investment. He has a fair amound of $ to put into this investment.

Real estate (if you live in a low risk area) is by far the best short term investment.

With a bond, you return will be nill.

With a mutual fund you may not make a dime over short periods of time.

He wants medium risk and you want to put him in BONDS and mutual funds?

Medium Risk = Blue chips.

High Risk = Speculation

Low Risk = Bonds and Mutuals, provided you're not buying junk funds.
