Inventory Audit for Active Directory

Is there any tools for Active Directory that will scan all computers (that are turned on at least) in the domain and build a report with the hardware and software installed? My organization was looking at Novell ZenWorks, but that would require a separate server. Is there any kind of utility Microsoft has that is ready to go with AD? If not, does anyone have suggestions about such software?

I'm not sure how sophisticated a system you need, but for a basic inventory scan, this may do the trick.

MS has their SMS stuff, but Zenworks is easier (imho) then the SMS stuff...it can be a real pain.

there is one I'm missing (that I really liked) but that is a list of some decent inventory/asset managmement systems. If you are going to pony up for one, pay the extra and get the S/W metering support. You would be amazed how many licenses are being wasted.

Search for "Newt", it has a freeware version that I've used before and it seemed pretty good.
