"Invalid scan freq." error and vertical lines!

I posted this in the Video section already, but no one has replied. Please help.

Im upgrading from a Matrox G550 to a Gainward 5900nu 128mb. After removing the G550 drivers and physically installing the 5900nu, it POSTs and then it starts to get past the Windows XP screen, but then the screen turns black and gives me an "Invalid scan freq." message on my monitor. Also, on the Windows screen as well as the first screen that pops up on boot (I guess it's the POST screen - tells you what BIOS version you have; where you press DEL to enter BIOS), there are 5-6 vertical stripes running the length of the screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Abit IT7 Max2 v2
1GB Kingston HyperX PC4000
Fortron FPS300-60PN
120GB Seagate HDD
Gateway VX900 monitor
Dell P990 Monitor
(tried with both monitors)
1x Dvd burner, 1x dvd-rom

Yeah, I know it's time for a new power supply. I'll buy a new one if I have to, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this problem. (I unhooked the two dvd drives to see if it was lacking power, but it still didnt help)

also, tried to boot to safe mode, but it still gave the same problem.

At least it's a quality brand of power supply. You didn't happen to have forgotten to hook up the video card to a power-supply cable (assuming a 5900nu takes a direct-to-the-PSU power cable)?

You should RMA it for the vertical stripes at boot. For the "invalid frequency", your monitor is unable to sync on the video card signal. This might be because of too high a resolution and refresh rate, or defective video signal or sync signal. As this could be just some windows error, you shouldn't RMA just for it.

My card did the "invalid frequency" thing too.
The BIG problem was the vertical lines during the POST.
It would do the lines even without Windows installed.
They didn't tell me what was wrong,
& I packed the returned card better than the replacement one.
