Invalid FTP login attempts

Is it pretty common to see random connection attempts with invalid passwords everyday on an FTP server with a free DynDNS domain? I receive at least 2 attempts a day, I ban them after 3 tries for a few hours and they usually don't come back, and just wanted to know how common it is.

Extremely common. It's one of the most scanned and hacked protocols out there. I'm surprised you only see two a day. I wouldn't be surprised at 2000 a day.

Every day or so I get an attempt. They almost always try the username "administrator". They might try other logins after but they get banned before they have the chance.

I kinda enjoy looking up their ISP's IP address ranges and banning them, it's therapeutic. 😛
