Link.

Their CEO says "Intuit has a long heritage of doing right by customers, and some of our customers didn't have the great experience they expect from Intuit. Therefore we've decided to discontinue product activation next season."

My guess is that due to massive outrage from this board and others like it, Intuit's long heritage of not giving two cents about the customer finally drove thousands of customers over to the TaxCut competition, and they don't want to do that again.

Too late...I'm sticking with Tax Cut from here on out.

My friend's dad says that product activation is 99.9% of all their tech support calls. People just don't understand that they can only install it on ONE computer.

Just a question for you guys who switched to Taxcut:

I'm just like you, after TurboTax did a stupid move, i switched to TaxCut this year, but for some reason I find it confusing to use and felt like a wasted my time and money so I ended up doing a manual calculation and even returned the state program version. Do any of you who switched to TC felt the same one way or another?

I switched to TaxCut a couple of years ago and have never had an issue with it. Too little, too late, Intuit... goodbye!

The state version of tax cut for me was just a joke. If I didn't already know what I was doing, I can't see how I could have properly completed the state tax section with taxcut.

That's exactly what I was going to post. Used Tax Cut this year and liked it better. Not going to switch back.

My sister-in-law has TT2002 Premier installed on more than one computer. They gave her no hassle at all about activating the second and third installs (two desktops and one notebook).

She did say that all the technical support personnel she talked with on the phone spoke broken English or had that quasi-British Indian accent. If Intuit is farming-out its tech support to India or Malaysia or some bumf-cked place, it would not surprise me that they were giving wrong advice to many people. These operations are not 'owned' or 'controlled' by Intuit (or the contracting company), but are contracted services, like Haaji's Support Services, or whatever.

Its a bit hard to control how well-informed those people are when not only are they not under your direct control because they aren't your employees, but are 8,000 miles away to boot.

good move on intuit's part. it also affects their other products (Quicken, Quickbooks) by ensuring this sort of fiasco doesn't happen again.

We used taxact this year. Cheaper than TT, easy download, and it worked (we got a refund). I don't know why we would go back to TT next year.
