Anyone have any knowledge of a good intruder detection software or where I can get reviews on some?

ZoneAlarm and BlackIce are a couple I read about a lot. I haven't seen recent reviews on either, though.

It seems most of the people who comment on them (on this board, anyhow), prefer ZA. Personally, I like AtGuard (now incorporated into Norton Personal Firewall) and BlackIce together. NI recently released v2.5, which addresses some known problems...

I use Norton Internet Security, which seems to work just fine. Its really customizeable.

I've been using Zone Alarm for 2 years now. It does a very good job as long as you aren't trying to use it on a multi-processor machine.

Don't use BlackIce if you ever want to (or have a need to) laod a TFTP server on your machine. It won't work. Otherwise it's a pretty good product.

I've used a bunch of scanners, but I think 7th Sphere PortScan is the smallest (~26k) and fastest one I've seen. I'm not sure where to get it anymore; if you can't find it, leave your e-mail and I'll send it to you.
