Introspective thread of the day. What makes us different?

Was wondering about this the other day in one of my "had too much time on my hands" moments.

We have 100000 plus members, many of which I know never intended to participate, but certainly many many lurkers come here.

Question

What common thread is there that makes us posters and not lurkers, or even come to these kinds of forums to begin with?

Personally, I think we are overly opinionated and have found a place where we can spout off

:D

i think some of here are somewhat reserved normally and here, we can discuss and talk about basically anything ANYTHING. Its an oppertunity to, as you said, voice opinions!

I lurked for a long time to gain information...very rarely did I ever need to ask a question that hadn't already been asked (mostly in the Hardware forums). After finding OT threads, I started reading them for amusement...eventually I started to want to join in and I finally did less than a year ago (after probably 3+ years of reading).

Anonymous relaxation/release of frustrations/voicing your opinion/discussing whatever you want/whining/neffing/etc.

Social feeling without actual contact.

Anonymitiy is at times seductive.... Chatting On-Line allows us to test different personalitiy traits. The more secure and self assured have a relatively safe and somewhat impersonal place to blow steam.

These are my conclusions of the whole topic of 'chatting'.

The posting thing is very isidious.....first you lurk....then you test the waters with a few posts.....get some replys....get to know people (inasmuch as you can online)....make more posts....etc.

I'd have laughed in your face if you told me I'd ever have this many posts on an internet forum when I first signed on here.
