Introduce some new music to me

I like pretty much every genre other than death metal. I"m open to punk, rock, rap, r&b, jazz, opera, classical, pop, the many forms of techno, indie, country, big band, wahtever. the only other genre im iffy about is country and thats mostly because the lyrics do no appeal to me, although the more mainstream country songs are ok.

Man Man
Tom Waits
Fiery Furnaces
Aphex Twin
Big Black

If you like Man Man, you have to see them live, they give the most energetic performances I have ever seen, and their shows are never more than $10. (Although they are touring with Modest Mouse, this summer which will probably cost a bit. I saw them when they were stopping by colleges before the MM tour.)

Sonny Sharrock - Ask the Ages

some random goodness from my collection:

Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon
Nick Kershaw - 15 Minutes
Michael Penn - Free For All, Resigned
Happy Rhodes - Many Wordls Are Born Tonight
Richard Thompson - Amnesia, Rumour and Sigh
Chris Whitley - Terra Incognita, Hotel Vast Horizon

Edit: Tom Waits is a good one too. Rain Dogs is my favorite of his.

Opeth. "But they're death metal!!!!" you may say. Au Contraire my friend. They are progressive metal, and even if you hate heavy metal, they have some very mellow, quiet songs. Check out Harvest, Windowpane, Hours of Wealth, Atonement, Isolation Years, Death Whispered a Lullaby, and then if you like those, The Drapery Falls and Reverie/Harlequin Forest to get a taste of their heavier side that's still quite mellow. Then if you still want to go on, listen to Deliverence and Master's Apprentices 😀

Check out this live concert from The Flames. Freaking great band.

"Enormously popular in their home country of Ireland, The Frames make intimate, reflective rock led by singer/guitarist Glen Hansard. Now on tour for their sixth and best studio album to date, The Cost, The Frames visit Washington, D.C. for a full concert, originally webcast live on NPR.org Apr. 26, 2007.

The Frames formed in Dublin in 1990 and released their debut album Another Love Song two years later. Since then, the group has become one of Ireland's most popular rock bands, selling millions of records worldwide.

Their sound has made dramatic shifts over the years ? loud and angry one moment, quiet and melancholy the next. The Frames' latest CD, The Cost, is more of the latter. But the band can still be explosive and volatile, particularly during live performances."

ETA - And Snagle has listed one of my favorite bands also. Bright Eyes. What an amazing band. I love all of their stuff as well.

I've had great look tooling around on Pandora and finding some great stuff I haven't tried before.

Check it out before the RIAA screws them over.

Lucky for you I'm super anal when it comes to cataloging music. Here's everything that I guessed you might not have heard yet that I like. I deleted all the rock.
