Intriguing problem

My Nero menu shows only one recorder namely 'image recorder' under 'device' and 'virtual device' under 'adapter.
When I click ok it says that this recorder is only meant for recording images and for CD writing I will have to have another 'real' recorder. There is no other recorder showing in the list.
I have winxp professional SP1 installed. What may be the problem.
Recently I got replacement for my old CDrw(48X asus) which is 52X Asus.
I tried updating the firmware for the drive also(heavens know i have no idea what it means) without any improvement.
I uninstalled and installed Nero a few times and removed all the reg entries also after uninstallation.
Still the problem persists.
Will someone help please.

Did you replace a SCSI recorder for an IDE one? If so that is the problem. That version of Nero doesn't recognize IDE recorders...

If the Nero you installed was OEM for the first drive, it will only recognize that drive I believe. You'll need a version for the new 52x drive, or the regular off-the-shelf Nero.

Or, if the original drive is not failing, go back to it. I highly doubt you'll see any difference between 48x and 52x.

Yes, some products come with a proprietary version of Nero. When I switched CDRs with one of them, I was given a warning that it only works with the drive it came with. OTOH, some give you an unrsetricted version. Then you can go to Ahead's website and download a newer version or upgrade. These have the updated internal data that Nero needs to operate each newer CDR as it becomes available.

If this was a warrenty replacement CDR, I think ASUS owes you the version of Nero that works with it.

Nero may offer an upgrade price if you have a proprietary version.
