In my home network, I have a mix of different box and my file server. I have two questions, one how do I serve web pages off the file server? I mean that if someone were to go to IE and go to say a favorite, it would take them to an internal only web site? Thye are on a mix of 95-xp and the server is 2k.

Yep it can, using IIS 5. If you wanna set up an intranet network and be overly complex and geeky, install a DNS server on the serverbox and throw an A-record in there pointing to the webserver's internal IP and you can make the domain name anything you want. Hehe

where would find resources on how to set up DNS and a A-record? Also, can I do this while still connected to the regular internet via cable modem/router/switch setup?

The above suggestion is a lot of work for just one website, put in the server's Ip and save as a favorite in your browser. you can save it as any name you want;)
