AMC's first dud for me. My wife started Into The Badlands yesterday, I watched the first episode and part of another. The world looks pretty cool but the lame over the top fight scenes are the worst. There is a scene in the first episode where the guy rides up on a group of bandits and literally takes them all out, that was bad but pales in comparison to a scene in a warehouse in the next episode. I think I would like this and watch it if it wasn't for the cheesy fight scenes.

I watched the first episode too, just cause it was on after The Walking Dead. I was pretty "meh" as far as a reaction to it, and yeah, the fight scenes were just too ridiculous for me.

It's modern kung-fu so the fight scenes shouldn't be taken too seriously. I actually like the show though not my favorite by any stretch but it's enjoyable. Plus there's a hot red head that fights with swords and It does get better after the first episode if you only just watched it.

Yes. I think this show is going after the kung fu crowd. Not realistic kung fu (if there is such a thing) but more Crouching Tiger. There ARE special abilities involved but I don't remember how soon that appears in the show. From that it's not hard to imagine that everyone has some level of special ability especially since
Sonny and MK
come from the same place (as you find out later).

Generally I like the concept and think it's going to get more interesting as they expand beyond the Barons' territory.

yea, way to much "Peter Pan" and "I know kung-Fu so the laws of physics dont apply" for me.

Watched this over 2 days last weekend and enjoyed it. Fights are a bit stylized withb plenty of gore, but the acting & drama of the series is not bad. Super monks coming in at the end gives clear storyline for next year, glad it will be almost twice as long.

god.. season 2 was a train wreck.
benji was mis-cast.

it was fine when he was an overweight con artist with a heart of gold.

but it seems after 1/2 the season was shot that the writers was forced to change the story to Benji the kung-fu master.

I struggled to get through this season, and I've a soft spot for Wire-Fu. This show could have been in the GoT with more fight scenes but somehow decided to bog itself down with stupidity. I'm not sure I'll be back for hte next season

It's been renewed for season 3 - http://tvline.com/2017/04/25/into-the-badlands-renewed-season-3-amc/

I basically like the story. And so far, Banji is the only thing that's pulled me out of the story to do a double facepalm. But if you can get over that, I don't think it's too bad.

Just to be clear.. we're talking about Bejie (only found spelling by looking up the actor) played by Nick Frost? I liked him well enough too, until he became another M.K. Him being a Kung Fu master just looks as bad as it sounds. Of course, I shouldn't be too bothered by it, now suddenly it seems everyone is one of those special "bleed me and I'm unstoppable (but now I suddenly am)" Kung Fu masters. After they showed both him and the Widow being them, I'm surprised they just didn't make everyone one. I'm sure next season we'll discover that Waldo is one as well, and so is Tilda, which is why Waldo seems to care about her so much..

I watched season 1 on netflix, it was pretty good.
yes, season 1 was good.
season 2 became a train wreck 1/2 way thru when the writers turned Bejie into shaolin monk.

then it got worse.
he got his former monks to kill themselves by cutting a few of them and turning them into unstoppable killing machines that attacked everything. ala Wolverine berserker mode.
the problem is that Bejie and a few monks in season 1 knew how stop them w/pressure point attack.

so why couldn't the season 2 normal monks also do that?
bad writing, as if the writers were told to scrap the original story line in the middle of the season w/this crap.

Its a guilty pleasure, definitely not meant to be taken too seriously. Its campy... I definitely roll my eyes a lot... but I think they know that.

Its 100000% better than TWD at this point, which has been awful for what feels like nearly a decade now.

I agree. TWD has become to enamored of itself and is now painfully serious and heavy. ITB is at the opposite end of that spectrum. I don't think they do anything to be intentionally funny, but they're not worried if it comes off that way.

if they have explosives, why don't they have guns??

yeah, I know, peace pack between the barons.
but what about the bandits and nomads?

and those places outside of baron territory?

The first episode was basically what I would expect. A little backstory for the intervening period and get the gang back together. I didn't get the part about Azra though.
Isn't that where the enhanced humans were first created? So why wouldn't they have a defense force of them?
Plus you had the monastery where they were trained. There must have been some connection with Azra.

It's good that they have complicating plot issues but it doesn't look that interesting yet.

the first eight episodes of Season 3 premiered on April 22, 2018.
the 2nd eight never showed up in Fall 2018.

On February 9, 2019, AMC has canceled the show but will release the 2nd half of Season3 starting on Sunday March 24, 2019.

so basically no closure unless the show reshot the last couple of episodes :(

They did give the producers and writers notice ahead of time that it would be cancelled. From what I read, the story will be wrapped up.

Anyone else catch the series finale? Ended with a cliffhanger.

I really hope another network picks this show up.

interesting if the producers knew they were being canceled and still left the series with a cliffhanger.

btw- the death of main bad guy was dumb.
he was an expert fighter and saw that sword coming at him from a mile away.
why not catch it with his 2 hands like a vise?
or just knock it away with one of his hands/forearms?

Oh gawd that scene in the series finale where Cressida is moving away at like 1 mile per hour in knee-high water on a small boat and Moon is like, "Noooo! I'll get you one day Cressida!"... Then he turns around and shoots Pilgrim's men with projectiles from his prosthetic knife hand...
