interview with IBM

dighn

Lifer
got an interview tomorrow for a java developer position. I'm a new grad and this is in Canada. Anybody know what to expect?

Thanks.

I interviewed for two intern positions with them. Not much pressure, just be prepared to tell them your experience, keep any/all of your real-world project & team work in your head, and be able to describe major problems that you have encountered & how you overcame them. If you have any exemplary work (like uber-hard programs or something) keep those in your head as well, there may be a time to talk about it. And most of all: RELAX. Most of these ppl are really cool and while I"m sure they will hire an uptight geek if they're good, they'd rather hire a person with real social skills who isn't going to act like a complete geekoid.

Good lucK!!

EDIT My interviews were in the USA; hope they're as nice up in CA 😉

well, thanks for the serious answers and jokes alike 😉

I hope it's not too bad and I won't tense up.

not really worried about technical questions b/c I should know my stuff

IBM will pound you. Sadly enough, it's not really worth it. They treat their employees like numbers, not people.

You will be fired in a second if they deem your position not worthy to their bottom line or they find a cheaper alternative. Be warned, they are a HUGE company w/ lots of power but they are VERY cutthroat. Do NOT count on being employed w/ them from one day to the next.

Great cutting-edge company to work for, but they lack job security.

Just be ready for ANYTHING, and answer in the most professional and cutthroat manner you can. Don't be a softy to IBM.

Oh, and CHEERS and good luck! I failed miserably in a primary interview w/ them but got a job w/ a better (IMO) company. Give it your best!
