Interview w/ NVIDIA's Chief Scientist David Kirk

<< captian on the bridge 😉 >>

Fuggin' A!!!!!

In Star Trek II and III, Captain Kirk's son's name WAS David!! 😀😀😀😀

lol I never noticed that..

good interview. reading that makes me want to buy nVidia cards even more! lol, even though I don't need one, it's damn tempting to just go out and buy something.. I'd probably want Tribes 2 and some other games though in order to use a GF3 properly, but now that I think of it.. the only games I really want to buy are most fun when played online, and I have a stupid 56k modem! DAH! now I have absolutely NO reason to upgrade due to my modem! this is going to drive me nuts..

RTCW has a nice single player 🙂

And not playing online because of a modem is a poor excuse. Unless of course you really really have a bad connection. We had a friend who could kick ass with a 300 ping. hell if we know what he was shooting at, but from the receiving end we had our hands full with him.

well my ping to my ISP is around 100ms, but I can't even play Half Life online.. I would normally attribute my problems with bugs, but Half Life is tried and true, so it must be my lag or something..

It's a nice interview... there was a bit more of the "we are great, ATI sucks" attitude pervading the article than I would have liked, but it was informative. I like the way Mr. Kirk never dodged a question. They were all good questions with good answers.

I agree with Soccerman - all the games that I want to play that push graphics power are online-only. My GeForce2 GTS is more than fast enough. RTCW is probably an exception, but I'm waiting until I can buy it for under $40 at a local store (BB has it for $50 and Babbages is about the same IIRC). My connection to the net is great, but I have the wife and child factor: I need to instantly be able to pause the game. Diablo was close enough (TP back to town), but the ones like Tribes or any of the 1st person shooters are too hard to play and still be socialable when someone wants to talk to you.

NVIDIA has offered to license our patented vertex programming technology, royalty free, to other IHVs, in order that they can implement our extension without risk. For some reason, ATI has not chosen to take advantage of this license for Radeon 8500, although other hardware and software vendors have eagerly adopted the technology

Why is ATi not taking it if it's free? Surely they don't want to be locked out of the loop when the other companies start using nVidia's technology.

I'm the opposite there are few online games upcoming or available that I'm at all interested in, the only upcoming online game that appeals to me is NeverWinter Nights. The vast majority of games I play are much more depndent upon processor and even amount of RAM before the graphics card.

So does anyone have a link to some information on PCI 3.0?

That seems kind of interesting.. And perhaps AGP8x?

And perhaps AGP8x?

AGP x8 will be optimised for streaming transactions which will make it perfect for T&L vertex data transfers and texture swaps.
