Interview tomorrow at 9am

I have an interview tomorrow for Country Companies (intern).

I'll keep this to the point -- I know everybody hates big posts.

Basically, for those of you that have been in successful interviews, post some questions that you thought stumped you, or that you think I should go over tonight to prepare. This is for an IT / Networking related job, btw.

Any input in this regards is much appreciated.

(P.S. I'm a nervous wreck at interviews so I need to do crap like this...)

How you dress may sub/unconsciously affect some interviewers. Don't take any chances. Look sharp.

I have a $300 full black, very light blue pinstripped suit, poly blue shirt, matching tie that my g/f picked out, and all black wing tipped shoes.

The looks will be no problem. 😀

I just need to give them what they WANT -- that's what it all boils down to. It's the whole QnA, and me not being able to tell them exactly what they're looking for that always gets me.

I mean, how many ways can I state "I like to be challenged?"

The other thing is, I currently have an internship, but it isn't going to lead to a full time position, because I knew it was going to be just an internship. Should I state that it was an internship to them, or just leave it like it was a job on the application?

1)make sure you shower, wear nicely ironed clothes, shave, comb your hair (use gel if necessary) and wear antipersperant.

2)be prepared to talk about anything on your resume

3)go on the employer's webpage and learn about them a bit, also make sure you have questions about the job. (dont bring a note pad to take notes, be prepared with questions, but try to ask questions that are relevant to the job that are thought of about things that the interveiwer asked)

4)make eye contact at all times and never look at your watch

5)be prepared to answer questions like "what are some of your weaknesses" and "why should we hire you"

6)get alot of sleep tonite, you Dont want to be yawning during the interview

7)be confident but not cocky (this is really important)

8)shut off your cell phone

go to sleep now and then wake up early and be in a good mood for the interview.

"7)be confident but not cocky (this is really important) "

excellent advice. also don't tell obvious lies... such as "i am willing to sacrifice my free time for the good of the company"... yeah right...

I like to be as calm as possible, so I try and minimize the stuff that makes me nervous.

Some tips:

1) Don't drink a ton of stuff prior to your interview. There is nothing worse than having to pee in the middle of an interview - even if it isn't bad enough to have to actually go it can be distracting.

2) Get there early. Avoid getting panicky on your drive by arriving early and giving yourself sometime to settle down before you enter the interview. My rule is to aim for 20 minutes early to the location and walkin to the receptionist 10 minutes early.

3) Be cool. If you pray, say a prayer before the interview if only to calm your nerves a little (meditation or a couple of deep breaths work too).

Some other tips:

4) Show them you know a little about their company. At my last interview I had the companies annual report in the pocket of the binder I used to take notes. So when I opened it to jot down an email address my interviewer saw the company report.

5) Send a thank you note after the interview. Something simple will do - recall one item from the interview in your letter that highlights one of your positive traits.

6) Try and use your interviewers name at least once, a good opportunity is when you leave. Thank you, Jill (or Mrs. Smith if you feel formal is better).

just went on an IT support job interview 2 weeks ago.

i prepared by doing some job research
found out some common interview questions
had a good interview and sent a thankyou letter and mailed it out the following day.

when i got there it turned out the guy interviewing me had the same major and alot of the same professors i have/had... he didnt even ask me any of the common interview questions. ex: what would you say is your best/worst quality blah.

he brought out a laptop and asked me to perform a bunch of things... it was easy. traceroute, nslookup, ping some garbage, map a network drive, ladeedaaa.

hope i passed the piss test i took friday 🙂

goodluck!

i was nervous but i just tried to breathe, keep good posture and most importantly "sell myself" to the interviewer.

sweaty palms was unavoidable
