Interview Today!

Im interviewing for a basic tech support job today at my campus's tech center (CITES at UIUC).....I have my resume all printed out and ready to go (I was gonna bring 2 or 3 copies, just in case), and Im deciding wether or not I should dress up. Its a pretty basic job, and Im not sure how competitive it is...all I was told is to show up for this 20 min interview with the lady in charge, and 2 other senior members of the staff. I have no idea what to expect as I have never done a formal interview before.....any reccomendations or last minute preperations?

update: Went well, no real problems as far as I could tell. The interviewee before me had on jeans and a t-shirt, and no resume. Most of the interview was them explaining what the job was, and what I would be doing, followed by asking me about my computer knowledge. They said 9 people were interviewing for 5 open spots, and she would let us know by next wednesday. Im thinking of writing a thank you email sometime tomorrow?

update: No dice.....didnt get the job 🙁

heh, only problem is that im at college....i didnt really being dress clothes....I have a few polos, and a pair of pants that could loosely be considered khakis...kinda cargo-pant like....

borrow a nice pair of slack or khakis from someone. You should have asked about this long before now.

Borrow a dress from some chick.
That would be an original and bold move. Your interviewers will be impressed with your out-of-the-box thinking.

Bring a bottle of water if you're nervous, don't wanna end up getting a dry mouth trying to answer an interview question. 😛

Your not fcked but you are at a disadvantage if you applying for a white collar job. You should always wear at minimum the required dress for the job, and in most cases you are better off one step above that, and it never hurts to wear a suit to an interview.
If you are a collage student in your junior year or above, you should consider one well made tailored suit a year (or even semester) as just another school expense. In many cases it will be cheaper then the books for a class.

Shoes to match the belt!

Bring some questions to ask; what a day is like, if its a new position or not, the types of applications/hardware you'll be supporting. They like questions.

Lots of eye contact.

Prepare your "Whats your greatest strength/weakness" answers

Don't sit until they do or they ask you to.
