Interview question and thank you email

So I just had an interview last Friday and I think it went really well. I'm about 90% sure I'm getting an offer. Should I still send a thank you email? Also, I got a call on the same day from another company I really want to interview for as well. If I get an offer from the first company, what do I tell them to buy some time so I can interview for the second company? What's considered an acceptable amount of time to ask for before I accept an offer?

Tell them you have another interview, and ask if you can have until X date (~1 day after your interview with the other company) to decide.

Really honesty is the best policy here, there is no need to play games.

At the same time an offer in hand is a lot different than another company asking to talk to you on the phone. Get a clear idea of what the timeline for the second company is going to be.

My personal view is that the thank you email really doesn't do anything. If they didn't like you, they aren't going to do a 180 because you sent them a thank you email. If they were going to extend an offer, the lack of thank you email won't prevent that.

The only I'll throw a thank you line in there is if they specifically ask me to email them a document.

As far the the other interview, I agree with Farang. Just be honest.
