just graduated, left my two suits at college, and I'm not able to go back to get them until later next week. Applied to a job Thursday, had a phone interview yesterday and was asked to come in Monday at noon for an one-on-one interview.

I have nice dress shirts, ties, and slacks (grey) at home, but no jackets. I was going to buy a new suit or two anyway, so these are my options:

1. wear grey slacks (tailored) with white shirt and solid color tie (no jacket)
2. buy a new suit tomorrow (Sunday) and wear that. only problem with this is that I will not have time to get it tailored and it might not fit well. also, don't have time to shop around and find a good deal (which means might not even wear it that much in the future, if I have to settle)

any other options? what would you do? ty

edit: interview is for an accounting position at a local real estate company

I bought for like $130 from JC Penny an entire suit a couple months ago. No tailoring needed. They have a bunch of sizes and chances are pretty good you'll find one that fits.

Pick up a blazer. Blazer + tie is good enough.

Honestly you're probably good wearing business casual, unless you think everyone there is dressed in full-on suits.

I think you'll be fine with what you have. It's too hot out for a suit anyway.

This. Every man should have a black blazer.

I just interviewed a guy this week who wore an awful suit. It was a three piece in the middle of June.......Kid was sweating so much it made me uncomfortable.

yea but you shouldn't wear a black blazer to a job interview.

The $130 JC penney suit will look it.. I have one of those, I wore it a couple times and never again. Never got the job because I looked goofy, it is such an awful suit it is more like wearing a costume.

blazer with grey dress pants? wouldn't it look weird if they didn't match exactly (like a suit)? the only time I've wore a blazer was when I was doing an event or something at my fraternity and wore khaki pants + navy blue blazer + tie. very preppy

Off the rack separates. Go to Macy's and look at the Alfani separates (flat front) or Club Room (pleated). They're the store brand. They're not the most durable, but in the context of a recent college grad, they don't look horrendously cheap either. You'll be able to get a jacket and finished pants in whatever fits you best. I needed a suit in a pinch once right after college and did this, it worked out.

Just go to their suit department, ask someone for help with separates. No tailoring required if you find something that fits you - the jacket sleeves and pants bottoms are already finished.

Should have gone to a place like Men's Wearhouse today. They'll do something simple like hemming pants while you wait. I'm fairly sure they'll turn around a tailoring job in a day if you need a suit immediately but they may charge you extra for it.

ahh, I know. my sister had my car and my mom wasn't feeling well so didn't want to ask her to drive me.

also, would you trust a tailor at men's warehouse or a department store? I heard to avoid them and go to a better tailor?

I've used them to buy and alter a suit for interviews when I graduated a few years ago. I'm sure a better tailor could have made the suit look a bit better but they were quick, fit my college student budget, and made me look presentable. In the end, I got the job so I guess that's what mattered!

I'd just wear what you have (business casual). I've never owned a suit and have gotten multiple job offers without them.

EDIT: Unless, like someone else said, everyone there wears a suit.

Don't you work at a garage or something? Why on earth anyone wears a suit showing up there?

No, no they don't. Professional looking doesn't necessarily mean suit. I where slacks and a nice shirt, don't even wear a tie.

I think in a lot of cases, it is odd to wear a suit. Recent college grads get away with it, because it screams "this is a big deal to me." If you wear what they wear (which is usually business casual or less), it says 'I am your peer.'

I interview a lot of people, but then again I'm in tech so it is going to be different.

Worst case you show up and the guy you meet is in a suit, you aren't. Make a joke about how you left your suit at college, and move on.

Those who want jobs, yeah. You don't need one for flipping burgers, though.

It really depends on the field. SA/Developer and I wore jeans and a polo to my last job interview. Well over $100k job too.
