Interview in an hour!! ATOT Brainstorming needed for HR question.

Hey all. The suit is on, my shoes are tied tight. I have 4 interviews coming up in 1 hour, and I need help on this one question HR is sure to ask..."Tell me about a time that you had a disagreement with your boss, and how did you resolve it?" The thing is, I really haven't had any disagreements with my boss (present or past). So, I don't know how to respond. Any ideas as to steering the question in another direction? Would steering the question to a peer-conflict be okay? HELP!! 🙂

I haven't had any disagreements with my bosses so far, however, should the situation arise I would....

Confused

I haven't either. I don't think I will, my boss is very nice, laid back guy. If there was ever any argument, I think we would act in a mature and professional manner and resolve it as best as possible.

Just so that your personaly has always meshed with that of your bosses so there was no real "butting of heads".
But if you ever did have a conflict with your boss you would try to solve it rationaly and not let your motions get in the way. You would try to solve this conflict quickly and quietly so you can continue with your work.

Or make up some bullshit like.

Ditto. Tell them that would let your boss know what is happening before it becomes a problem for other people and affects performance and all that crap.

You guys rock! Thanks for the ideas. I'll be honest with them, then let them know how I would resolve such a conflict. *Deep breath*...Okay....Here I go. 🙂

--UPDATE!!--

Just got back from the interviews. They all went really well! The HR portion went surprisingly well, and I wasn't asked any dumb questions. No, "How do you move Mt. Fuji?" or the question I was dreading. 🙂 YAY!! So, now I sit back, and wait. Maybe 2-3 weeks before I hear anything. They said they had many people to interview. The HR guy said, "I think you would be an excellent fit for this position."...SWEET!! 😀

If you want them to remember you...

Send them a thank you note!

Tell them you were excited after the interview, you think it went well, thank them for their time and that you look foward to seeing them again.

You will stick out in their mind better... especially if you can remind them of who you were without saying "I was the guy.. with the glasses and the goatee..."

The thing I would ask in response to "I never had a problem with my boss" would be how long have you worked and would you consider yourself passive.

In reality the 'boss' should be trying to get you to do it all and 'you' should be reponding with 'sorry this is the best I can do'

Otherwise there is a break don't in the way most US companies work.

I have been in heated debates enough to get my boss to kick a hole through a wall about 12x12....chase me down a wall screaming profanities at me, etc

I never was fired although he fired a company record of 12 in a day....I quit.

I made an offer for a raise, he said no, I said fine I am going back to college in a month....last week of this when it was obvious I was leaving (he thought it was a bluff) he got my about 75% of what I wanted with promise of the other 25%+ some more in 3-6months....I told him my requirements have doubled (I gave them two weeks to reply....this was the third week...I was tired of games)....

he scrambled but things moved to slowly there.....I went back to college and got a CS Bachelors.

Yup! I ALWAYS send thank-you notes. Will be doing that shortly...don't want them to think I'm too desperate. 😉

So what types of questions were you asked? What did you find the most difficult?

Actually, there weren't any super difficult questions in any of the 4 interviews. I guess the toughtest were "Tell me about the most difficult client you've had to deal with." The HR guy played devil's advocate with me for a few questions, but it wasn't too tough. "Tell me about your leadership style" was a question I really appreciated and I responded well. Most of the interview questions I face are 80% situational questions..."Tell me about a time when..." I answer in a way that is truthful and tries to describe the type of person I think they would want. One question was "Tell me about a time when you missed a deadline." I responded, "I honestly cannot think of a time where I have missed a deadline. My integrity is very important to me. If you give me a deadline, I will do everything in my power to get the job finished efficiently, and as correctly as possible." He said, "Good, that was the answer I was looking for." 🙂
