Well today I got offered to a 2nd round of interview for a firm. However, I was asked am I interviewing for any other place. I am wondering what is the significance of that questions? I named 2 firms because I didn't see a reason to lie, but I don't know my concern is that it might hurt me going into the 2nd round.

Well, IMHO if you are desirable to them, it might make them act quickly and give you a better offer otherwise.

OR

They might see that you are not that interested in what their company has to offer, but I would see that as unlikely, you are on the job market and you want a specific job, they should be able to see that.

I say don't worry about it.

It shouldn't hurt you going forward, if they weren't that interested in you they wouldn't have called for a second interview. It could only help you really, because if you're interviewing with a competitor and they see you as a real talent, they may be willing to offer you more.

They want to know how far you are in the interview process. If they do not plan to make a decision until the end of the month, they know they will have to worry if they really want you.

Did you land something yet Gibson?

I now already feel like a professional interviewee.

First week laid off down this week and can't how many phone interviews and went on one two hour interview with a recruiters office.

I did...but I had to refuse the offers because one of them offered a really low salary, and the other wanted me to do a contract for 6 months at low hourly pay before they would hire me full time. I am also expecting an offer on monday for a different company, but i am not sure I want to take b/c the commute is pretty bad. I am not that worried though because I have been talking to other companies and one of my former coops finally got in contact with me.

Wish I had the luxury of time like that.

I really don't. I do not want to put my loans on forbearence, but it looks like I may have too (my old coop money is finally running out). I am really holding out for Analog Devices because they have emailed me for an interview 2 weeks ago (Going in for it on Tuesday). If that or my previous coop does not work out, I am gonna have to suck it up and deal with the horrible commute. i was gonna try to negotitae the contract job, but they pressured me to give them a decsion by the end of the day, so I just told them no.

Thank you for everybody's input so far. Yeah, I felt that I shouldn't have give any names. But he did follow up with what firms were they after I said yes. So I don't think I could've gotten away with that question. It seems they were onto something.

I came down to two conclusions. Basically, what DarkThinker said. Either they want to make sure I join them, if I was given an offer, or I would come off as not interested in them. Only reason I am a little worry because this firm is actually my top choice. I guess the only way I'll know is to get pass round 2.

I'm going through this right now.

I graduate in May with a degree in a somewhat desirable major. I've already received offers from two other companies, so when a recruiter asks this question, I let them know about the offers. This tends to get them into action quickly, and they will schedule an interview in the somewhat near term.

That being said, searching for a job sucks! I've gone on about 15 interviews this month (first, second, and third round in some cases), and declined an additional 7 more. It's been perhaps the most stressful month of my life. However my last interview is on Tuesday, and I'll make a final decision by Friday hopefully.

I thought you owned a bar, Dave? Is it not generating enough revenue to keep a steady income for you?
