There is a new gamestop in town opening up soon and they are starting interviews tomorrow. I've never been in a Gamestop and I've always stuck to EBGames so it feels kind of weird to possibly be working for the other side. Has anyone here ever worked at Gamestop and can offer any advice on what they'll be looking for?

I had a convo with a manager at an EB once and he said he put his tetris high score on his resume and that made a big difference.....

Don't mention how the Todd MacFarlane line of toys make you sexually excited...

If you are working for EBgames now, you have a huge advantage over other people.

It all comes down to your personality and goals. So know what you want and take charge of it.

Word to the wise Gamestop sux.. ..

I worked for a corp. store about 3 years ago brand spankin new..

I was the 2nd person hired behind the manager and from day one we busted our a$$ to set the store up, get it going and turned it into a "model" store they even took pictures of for new managers. They brought the manager in from Ga. just to run this store and the store was in NC.They did NO marketing for us, we had to do our own and by "our own" I mean we made signs @ home out of our own purchased supplies.

Then we were required to sell "x" number of things like GameDr's, or magazines random JUNK not things I would as a gamer try to push on people. Ofc ourse this was on top of the "x" number of pre-sales and new games we all had to sell each week. That part was no big deal just the gamedr's i hated pushing those as they were sub-par and the mark up was so stupid high.. ..

Good things we got to check games out 1st, always got promo stuff and our store would let you play the setup systems long as you werent on the clock *cough*=). And the general customers were all pretty cool so I liked that part as well.

Long story short after they didnt help us with any marketing, didnt give us but 4 xbox's and 4 ps2's at a time..(only got 6 @ xmas of each) b/c we were new they said we weren't performing. We drove our sales up 200% over the next month which was slightly lower than a mall based store close to us ( we were in a remote strip mall that wasnt finished) they came in and fired every single one of us.. manager, assistant manager, 3 full timers and 3 part timers for poor sales in Feb 03 after we sold out of every new title and system we could keep in stock over xmas.. .. ..

Just after we all were fired they hired new staff and got ganked for 13 ps2's amd xbox's from a new employee.. .. had to fire the new manager as well.. ..

Oh yeah and we were robbed @ gunpoint 3 times.. myself once.. .. ..

Is Gamestop the 7-Eleven of the video game world?

In a strip mall with only a sewing shop next to us.. .. we have games, NEW systems and limited cash on hand.. who wouldnt wanna rob that store! OR who would ever think to THROW a huge rock thru the plate glass and cut themselves all to h3ll robbing the place only to get caught at the ER from glass inflicted wounds.. ..

Wasnt trying to flame GS just a warning the people I worked with were awesome still freinds with all and customers (except trade in customers) were all cool still know quite a few of em.

I got in telling them I was the 1986 atari champion.. made them laugh not true but they bought it for a few secs..;)

Hmm.. I don't really get the positioning of this store. It's attatched to the back half of a Wings Etc (Where all my hot girl friends work, eager for me to come over and have free lunch with them. Almost worth the job alone  ) and it's hardly visible from the street. Not to mention a new EB is no less then 600 feet away and has been established there for the last few months. Seems like a terrible spot to open up a new store to me.

Just keep in mind our store was always open till 9 so it will be dark when you leave. Our store was poorly placed as well so look at things that will be open around that time around you.Wingstop should stay open late so you might be better off if they are right next to you.If you close the store it will be around 10 when you jet so if you feel safe then its all good but just keep in mind you know closing the store you prolly wont have access to the safe but potential criminals may not.. .. also if it isnt easily visible from the street / passer by's again that is where we had probs getting robbed guy held a shotgun to me for like 10min at dusk at no one saw a single thing.. not even a car in the lot the way we were positioned.. .. was a cop at the Kroger less than 100ft around the corner too.

Well this store is in the parking lot of a Walmart. And like I said, Wings is attatched to the building and that place is always crowded with people and cars. It's far from not being visible and I would think this town is relatively safe. You just never know though I guess.

What kind of perks does Gamestop offer in the way of software and games?

I have no idea, but i'm guessing huge discounts, or be the first person to try them out. Also, if you sell microsoft stuff, then I guess you can be part of the microsoft training thing

When I worked we were able to "check out" meaning take home games in a rent fashion we signed them in/out every day we kept them. only rules were game had to be out 2 weeks and we had to have at least 8 copies extra on hand before we could grab em.This was as they said a privellege and could be taken away at any time.

Discount was only like 10% off new and 15% off pre-owned although around xmas they usually had some good promo's on new systems. I got a xbox thru a promotion and when they were 299 i snagged mine for 172 and some change so nice deal at that time.

Our manager always let us fudge the pre-owns a bit too so if we brought in great shape trade in's and the system would give us 10 bucks he would bump it up to like 13-15 but that was just him possibly.

We always got games in usually either over the weekend or on monday that were new releases so we could play them before anyone else that was always a plus.Played Halo from 2am to 4am when it came out couldnt take it home but got to try it out.

And we always got to keep any magazines when we got the next issue in even ones with the CD demos. Last thing that was really cool were the promo items T-shirts, Collecting items, Mugs, Posters, Stand ups all that stuff was an added bonus.

And software weren't really any perks but what was shown to me by my superior is that we carry those little clear plastic circle stickers.. .. which cover the ends of the software/pc titles.. .. when we closed the store there was only ONE person allowed after 9:30 so.. .. if you happen to be opening the next day (I did that ALOT).. .. well you do the rest of the math
