I've never heard of allstate batteries, but in general most batteries are made by only a few different companies and are then relabeled.

Personally, I buy the 'premium' name brand battery (almost always from costco). If it's a boat or something with extra electrical needs I would consider an optima.

I usually buy costco batt's but the last few times I went to look their batt.rack was a mess and I couldn't find a batt.

I believe you mean "Interstate" batteries. If so, then I've had very good luck with them and I generally prefer them if I can find a place that carries them.

Johnson Controls makes them, along with lots of other brands of car batteries.

It's true that Johnson Controls manufactures the batteries, but it's important to note that even though Johnson Controls manufactures batteries for a variety of brands (Delphi, some EverStart models, ACDelco, Duralast, DieHard, Kirkland, Interstate, and Motorcraft among others) this doesn't mean that they are simply slapping a different sticker on the batteries and calling it a day. There are often meaningful specification differences between brands even among batteries for the same applications (as evidenced by different warranty lengths).

so I ended up wit a O'Riley 72 mo. warr.batt. Tried costco but their batt.rack is a cluster fusk. saved about 40.00 over the Interstate.
