I'm not sure if this is really a network related problem or something specific to Interspire's Email Marketer program or some type of improper configuration. If it's not network related, then I'll repost this in the appropriate area.
We use Interspire's Email Marketer to send out a campaign of about 220K recipients on a weekly basis and the lists get sent out consistently albeit with an issue I'll discuss later.
The problem we've been experiencing though is that when trying to send out a small sized email campaign of about 1-6 emails which contain office emails and yahoo/gmail account emails, the small sized campaigns only gets sent out successfully about 15% of the time and the other 85% has no emails being sent successfully at all.
We've tried using 3 mail servers (1 internal Exchange, 1 internal SMTP relay, and 1 third party external) to send out mail and sending out a test email works consistently, but when we try to send out a small email campaign, we only get around a 15% success rate.
Now regarding our larger list of ~220K recipients, when it gets sent out, it consistently shows 4-5K emails not sent which I believe is the number of emails it takes for Email Marketer to attempt to send out emails before successfully connecting & maintaining that connection with our SMTP server to send out the remaining list out.
The server that contains Email Marketer also contains a Kayako Support program which has no problem sending/receiving email.
What I'm trying to find out is if anyone has an idea what could be causing this type of inconsistent behavior with sending out small email campaigns?
