I married my black girlfriend of 4 years last July (I'm white) and we are expecting a baby this June (little quicker than we wanted but still happy). Anyways, I was just reflecting back on the years that we've been together and was curious about the experiences that others have had with interracial relationships, be it good or bad.

We've been through everything together from gaining family acceptance to funny stares when we are walking around together to total acceptance from friends and co-workers. Some of it has been bad but most of it has been very good and our marriage and relationship is solid. Anyways, hope to hear from some about this.

We live in Atlanta and it isn't bad. The worst we have gotten is stares...which can be pretty hilarious sometimes. We get them from both sides of the fence and from both sexes.

My favorite incident is when we travelled down to Orlando and stopped at a McDonald's to get something to eat. We walked in and this little black girl that was about 6 just stared at us and burst out "Oh, Hell No!" I couldn't help but laugh out loud over that.

I've been dating a caucasian female for the last 2 years, and I'm Chinese. Ontop of that, she's 2 years younger than me, a senior in high school still while I'm a 2nd year student at UM. We grew up in a nice decently-mixed upper middle class suburb (Troy, MI), so there was little criticism. It's still there, but it's generally from the "cool" people or the social rejects, so we pay no heed to them. When we travel however (the few times), to places that are less civilized, I get plenty of "stares" and "whispers", but I'm used to that and so is she, although she notices it a lot less. But it's still weird since she doesn't know what it's like growing up in an asian family. Sometimes we clash on that, and I can never fully explain it to her. Congratulations on the marriage and baby, hope the future holds the best for all three (or more?) of you.

I am black and my wife is white. We will be happily married for 6 years in May. Our little girl will turn 2 in June We have not had any problems at all. Couple of things but nothing serious. Actually its kinda common now.

My mom married a black guy back in '69, when it was much less accepted.

Then my sister married a white guy (two years ago this February) and they have three kids (2 girls and a boy). One of the girls and the boy are blonde-haired/blue-eyed, and the youngest girl (8 mos. old) is darker and looks more "black". It's kinda funny seeing the looks my sister sometimes (pretty rarely actually) when these blonde-haired kids come running up to her yelling "mom".

Race has never been a really big deal for anyone in my family. Which is very nice.

I cant help much more, as my girlfriend and I are both white. Having said that, I dont 'look' for a white girlfriend at all, she just came along at the right moment. Interracial relationships in the UK are becoming quite common now.

I'm not big on interracial relationships. Not that I have anything against them, and I wish the best of luck to all of you that are involved in them. However, I personally prefer to date girls of the same ethnicity as me.

Oh my, Atlanta??? yeah go hang out in Tennesaw(sp?) for a couple of days and see how it goes. Geesh...I moved from Ohio which really wasn't too bad. I've visited Georgia with a black friend (a guy) a few yers ago and we got enough looks to piss me off.

All I can say is if yo love your wife, don't ever letit get to you...I never even notice the stares anymore...i could care less what people think. She does notice though..and points it out to me sometimes. But seriously since we moved it's been almost a non-issue. It's not why we moved, I've always loved the bay Area, but it certainly is hardly even noticed here.

Tell me one thi9ng though...what kindof hairstyle does she have right now? If it's relaxed you better be sensitive to those needs. My girl has braids at the moment so all is good.

I'm white and my husband is Japanese, it seems that people are more accepting of Asian women with White guys than vice versa.
We don't have a problem with it and I don't really care what anyone else thinks about it.
We get the odd stare and sometimes a rude comment but thats their problem.
I have noticed that when I am in a waiting room and someone calls out my last name they double check to make sure its me because they are expecting an Asian girl.

Well it not all rosey as it sounds. Both my Mom & Dad are totally unaccepting of any woman of color that I might bring home. My last serious girlfriend was black and they were upset and miserable over the relationship. Thats my preference too, which compounds the problem for me.

Its a shame that in this day and age that people would look at an interracial couple and even think 'interracial'. Just because one doesn't go on lynching ceremonies, doesn't mean one is not racist or holds a racial prejudice. I come from all corners of the world (severely mixed race), when people ask me where I'm from the actual reply is more of a story than a statement. But if me going out with someone of a different skin tone should attract attention, then I would give those people a reason to get a life. But in the UK it honestly has never been a problem, in my adulthood lifetime anyway.

I'm also muslim, I bet thats not a good thing to be in the US right now.

Funny though, cause whenever people see my personal pictures, they think I have a white girl fetish.

Kind of sad to hear people getting crap about AM/WF relationships, I never got that, but I have pretty white looking facial features. I should keep chasing white girls to spite those people.
