From some company in Germany. A vary attractive looking Android based iPad alternative called the Interpad Malata A1011. The specs on are pretty impressive.

CPU: 1ghz nVidia Tegra2 T20 Dual ARM Cortex A9
RAM: 1gb DDR2
Display: 10'' touch screen (doesn't say if it's multi-touch or what the res is)
Storage: 16gb built in flash with SD card slot supporting up to 32gb.
Connectivity: 1x USB 2.0 port, 802.11g, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI
Battery: 3900mAh gives 8-12hr batter life
Video: MPEG2 / MPEG4 / H.264 / H.263 / VC-1 codec, a resolution up to 1080p
OS: Android 2.1
Dimensions: 253mm x 164mm x 12.5mm (or roughly 10'' x 6.46'' x 0.5'')
Weight: 660g (23oz)

It's rumoured to cost €399, roughly $18 more than the iPad 16gb. Apparently a 3G version is also in the works which includes Android 2.2, camera, and GPS as well for €499, or $649.

No words if it will be released on this side of the pond. The company is looking to debut it at IFA in Berlin this September.

Specs look pretty good... it all comes down to execution and build quality, both of which are big wildcards.

Dual core Tegra2 to be specific. Should kick butt when it comes to multi-tasking. It's also got four times the RAM the iPad does.

and actually has ports built in so you don't have to buy tons of accessories

I'm just wondering why they're not using Froyo or Gingerbread. Android 2.1 is outdated at this point, and will certainly be more so if this thing comes out in Q4 as promised. If it has Gingerbread on it, with it's integrated media streaming, that would kick serious butt.

Yea there was a write up on engadget yesterday. They will offer 3G (but not sure when or with who in usa (they will initially release in europe). On the surface this sounds like the solution for me; and I'm sure they will release with 2.2 or 3.0 depending on actual release date (I think they were suggesting nov or dec so it is a bit in the future).

Uh, what?

All of these tablets seem a little gimpy to me. I know the form factor is new and all, but come on. 1gb of RAM? Storage is always craptacular as well.

For the record, I thought the iPad was horrendously underpowered when it released, so comparing anything to it isn't saying much in my opinion.

Since they now run software intended for cell phones (originally) 1GB is a ton of memory. Also a dual core processor will be more than plenty.

Meh, 1Gb is PLENTY. My Netbook runs Win7 starter happily in 1Gb, a tablet running Android won't know what to do with 1Gb, i.e., it's loads.
