Internship questions

The current degree program I am (Info Systems....no calc there ;) ) requires me to have an internship as part of my degree. I'm currently working for an isp/clec doing a variety of things and this job could count as my internship. My question is, should I just do it now to get it done with, or is it better to "save for last" so when I'm done I can go somewhere, get an internship, and hope it will lead to other things. I partially think its dumb to delay my degree another semester when it could be earning me more money, but in this job market maybe it would also be a way to get an opportunity I wouldn't otherwise have. Suggestions?

Once you're "Done" why stop if you don't have to?

But yes, do it NOW and get it done.

I will tell you a story:
I was working internships since my freshman year in college. My college has a policy that you can't get credit for an internship after-the-fact. I was ineligible to get intern credits in 1998 as a frosh and Sophomore summers I was ineligible. Junior year, the Internship coordinator quit and "lost" my paperwork and the department chair was unwilling to help me out (she was a bit of a slug).

So here I am, my senior year. Probably the most experienced worker in my major having been a programmer and an administrator for the past 3 summers, yet I am threatened with not graduating on time because of a moronic policy that suggests that I "forget" my internship work the second I go back to school. I had to have 6 credits which could be internships, research projects, or one of each.

I ended up having to take a job as a help desk lackey earning freaking $10/hr (I STARTED at $10/hour 4 years before that and was getting $18 at my REAL internship!), AND I had to waste a number of hours on a useless research presentation.

So at the end of the day, my advice to you is: GET THE CREDITS NOW. If anything goes wrong, you have time to work it out. Why can't you continue to work as an intern even after you have completed the for-credit portion?

I can continue to work where I work now even after I did an internship, I was just wondering if the internship would be a springboard to a new job.
