Long story short, I'm an intern who applied for a full time position at this corp I work for. It pays well and has good benefits. Problem is I don't want to grow up to fast :( ... I have an adventurous side to me and want to enjoy that before I am strapped down.

I think I pretty much answered my own question, but would you guys take the position anyways? The way I see is that I could quit in a year or something and then do what I really want to do (music).

What do you guys think?

If you didn't want it why did you apply?

In this economy though I'd be really tempted to take it. Right now, a job in music might not get you too far.

Mostly because I figured I could take the job and live relatively frugally for a while and save money to help my band.

I've got a full time co-op and i switch back and forth from school to work. With the money I made this last semester I'm going to Japan for spring break. So it's not like you're tied down completely.

do both.

The current job market is fucked right now, it's ugly out there. The live music scene is also down a lot too because people just aren't going out as much. I play shows in Chicago and have seen it first hand that bars aren't doing as much music lately as they have in the past. You should take the easy win job and save your money so when the time comes you will be prepared to follow your dreams. Anyone and their mother can make a record now with professional tools and equipment that until recently were completely unobtainable to the general public... so keep that in mind too.

You gig in Chicago? Man can you hook our band up with some gigs up there this summer? There is a girl up there dying to do an article on us and a CD review. She wants us to play with Munroe and some of these other popular alternative bands.

If you don't take the job because you don't want to "grow up too fast," then you are a moron.

If you take the job and get trapped in the rat race, you are also a "moron".

I know coworkers who are also musicians. One is in a band and they perform once in a while. You still have vacations if you work.

If you think you have a good chance at a career in music, go for it. Just make sure to have a backup plan
