Is the internet going to be replaced, in say within the near future, or in like 10 or 20 years? I am 17 and I would like to go to a technical college to get a degree in web design, and my friend is telling me that the internet is going to be replaced with something better, and that my choice is a bad one. Can someone please help me with this? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

The Internet is the Internet. I don't see how it could be replaced by anything "better." Especially as far as webdesign is concerned...it's just, too well established.

No it won't be replaced. Your friend is BSing you.

However, the Internet does need to be cleaned up from time to time. Every now and then you should receive an e-mail from the appropriate people letting you know when the next scheduled clean-up day is.

You don't really have to do anything except make sure your computer is offline that day.
You also want to make sure your Xbox and PS2 are offline as well.

10 year old tech is always going to be old and unused. Not much 10 year old tech still in use today, what makes you think 10-20 years from now it'll be any different?

edit: most of the above posters are incorrect. How many of them are using 10 year old PCs? What about 10 year old OSes? Still on W95 guys? Anyone using thick net or token ring? I don't think so.

edit2: Think IPV4 will still be around in 10 years?

if you want a sure thing then go into genetics, robotics or nanotechnology.

Edit: not to mention you dont need school to learn web design. Get a couple books and a couple apps and practice.

I think the technology behind the internet may improve, but as far as the how the internet "works" from a theoritical stand point will pretty much stay the same.
