Internet use on a home network (with a work PC)

Can an employee see what s/he wants on his or her home network, even if it's a work PC?

I would understand that the ISP has authority on a home network, as it's connecting to their infrastructure. But as it's work property, can an IT department prohibit use on a home network?

Most work-at-home work laptops require VPN access to actually do work, so by that token, the company can still monitor your network access at home.

I can only assume you're asking if there is any sort of filtering going on because it's a work PC (eg you can get to www.games.com at home but it's blocked at work).

The answer to this is totally subjective. If the company is doing filtering on the network level, then you can access these sites from home with a work PC while you're connected to your home network (This does not mean you SHOULD, only that you CAN).

If the company installs filtering or tracking software directly on the laptop before giving it to the employee, they may still be recording what you do and/or blocking what you do even if you're connected at home or at a coffee shop.

Bottom line: Stick to strictly work on the company issued PC unless you'd like to get fired.
