Internet use from Unix terminal?

At my job I run simulations, test, etc that consume an hour or so regularly. Often I do not have any real work to do other than waiting for them to finish. I surf the web like everyone else does at work while waiting, however, where I am situated most people walk by me a lot, and my computer is in full view. I hate to look like a slacker while reading these forums :)
Is there an alternative to browsers on inet content? Can I maybe read newsgroups or something from a unix terminal window? I can already check my email via telnet, but that isn't much to do. And no I don't want to 'hack/crack', at least not from work :)

Use "links" to browse in your command line - text based. It's still colored, but looks weird and there are no pics.

I think that there is one more text based browser that I know of, maybe "lynx" but can't remember, just that it has an X at the end.

By the way, the "G" key brings up the window to allow you to type a URL. (You have to use all keyboard, but it's sneaky at least)

lynx will even allow you to post here.

It's not pretty mind you, but it works.
