Internet usage not matching up with isp numbers

I just went over the isp's threshold, but my router, asus 66 something, shows using quite a bit less. The difference is between 1/4 - 1/6 less. Usually my usage is between 100 and 200gb but not 300. I had gotten a warning around 280 and my usage per the Asus was only around 200 at the time. Im not even at home right now and somehow I added 20 gigs in the last 3 days. So is there any way I can find out what is using my data usage? I got a bunch of devices connected and going thru them one at a time and shutting them down and waiting a few days to see if the usage goes down would take forever. Certainly there should be a network analyzer that could find out the culprit for me.

Yeah, thats the model, n66u, but no where does it break it down. The traffic manager is where I'm getting my numbers that don't match up with the ISP's. Everything I have connected goes thru this router so there shouldn't be a discrepancy between the numbers. I'd like a more detailed breakdown on my end.

Do you have the Guest wireless network enabled on the router? If so, it could be one of your neighbors (or a random drive-by) using the bandwidth.

Nope, the guest network is shut down. I'm pretty conscious of all the mac address's hitting the router. The router allows you to name them, and they are all accounted for. Even still, my numbers don't add up to comcast's.

On a Home Network Client devices do not know what other deices do
(Internet wise).

The only way to measure the Total Internet usage is either use the whatever type of info Main Router provides, or replace the Router with a Dedicated Router Computer and then you can use sophisticated software on the Router/Server to analyze every Byte.

In any case, at moment make a Screen shot of the Router's Menu, email it to the ISP, and see where it will get you.

I'll probably do that once the end of the month is up. I chatted with them online and requested them send a detailed report at the end of the month. I read some forum posts of people saying they won't provide any reports but we shall see. it is comcast Elfenix.

Does the router preserve statistics across reboots? Even if the limit is pretty high, flash memory has limited writes. Constantly saving updated statistics to flash sounds like a bad idea, unless preserving traffic statistics is a particular feature I would think they just kept it in RAM, so at boot the counters would reset. My landlord has an RT-AC66U, and the traffic report only goes back to last boot, but the current uptime is about a month, so I'm not sure if or how it keeps the traffic logs.

Good question. I'll know for sure when I get back, there was a power outage a couple days ago. I'm thinking it does keep it as before I left when I looked at the statistics there were no 0's and i think i had rebooted at some point in the past month. Although I could be wrong.
