Internet up and down today

All day today, I have been having problems online, from email to web surfing to FTP'ing. I can get online, then it will be down for about half a minute, then up, down, up, etc. I use a cable modem, but my cable TV is working fine, shouldn't my internet connection work fine too? I don't know who to call, as everyone will say it is not a problem with them, and it will take me 2 hours on hold to get in touch with anyone. Suggestions?

The signal to your modem may not be good. Or, the DNS servers on the company's end are not functioning correctly. Try to connect to 192.168.100.1 to view your cable modems' webpage (only works on certain modems, what kind do you have?).
 
Unfortunately, surfing the web is my job, so I can't go outside. And I don't know where Al Gore is.

Thanks Techno Kid, I have a SurfBoard SB3100. The web page showed that everything is fine.

Try and reboot your cable modem. I have had that problem before and the reboot always cleared it up. It was something to do on the ISP end.
