Internet throughout the house...

In my current home I have Verizon Fios for my internet. A friend of mine helped me run CAT5 through the attic and down to two other rooms so other PCs in different rooms could share the internet access.

I have sold my house and am moving into a rental now by the end of the week and I am not sure I will be able to run cable that way. What I did notice is that every room in the house where I would want a PC with internet access has a cable jack.

Since that is the case, is there some way for all the PCs to share internet again? The house is pretty spread out so I don't know if I will be able to go wireless or not. If I put a router in every room will they have a direct connection? If I can, would they all be pulling from the same bandwidth or would that have to be 3 different internet connections?

I don't want the computers to share anything other than the bandwidth coming into the house...

If there is another way to do this, please let me know...

Thanks!

How "spread out" are we talking? New wireless routers might have a larger range than you have previously experienced. Also consider buying a wireless signal booster or repeater. I hear they do the job but i haven't had any experience with them myself.

Puppies is right. You would be surprised at the range of new routers wireless capabilities. It may help if you have multiple floors to put a repeater at the top of the stairs (if modem is upstairs) just to help out.

You can also network through the existing coax. I see the setups all of the time now with the smartTVs using the coax to get internet.

You might need some kind of HCNA coax to ethernet adapter. If the existing coax is of sufficient quality you'll be fine. If it is too old and decrepit, you may be out of luck on that front. I second the notion of testing the latest wifi routers to see if it does the trick for you, and extenders or repeaters can probably fill in any gap from there.

You may also want to try powerline internet, though it may or may not be ideal for you.

Even an old 10base T over coax would be fine for internet (most people still have 5mb or less), at least for a few more years. Don't expect any good computer to computer speeds that way though.
Go wireless router. I got one for an office that is 45 feet away horizontally, and one floor down, and it works AWEsome. After some research, I bought a Netgear wndr3700 and haven't looked back.
