Internet Suddenly Got Slow?

So two nights ago I was browsing around the internet with absolutely no problems at all. I normally have a speedtest.net speed of 27.50 mb/s down, and a 5.50 mb/s up. The next day when I woke up I noticed my speeds were very slow. I decided to do a speedtest and had around 1.00 mb/s down but yet still had a 5.50 mb/s up. I don't think it is my router because I tried hard wiring directly into the modem and see the exact same problem. Is there possibly a problem with my ISP? I have Comcast Cable.

I've had issues in the past that were easily remedied simply by getting a new IP address for the modem. To do that you just need to change the MAC address that the router sends to the modem (it's usually the same as the PC that configures the router, but can usually be changed).

If that doesn't help, run a traceroute to see if there is a bad/slow node (it will usually time out or have unusually high ping):

Start > cmd.exe

Code:
tracert google.com

I concur on the IP address change. I do it all the time by using the MAC address clone feature. Sometimes Comcast will screw up and I need to get a new IP address.

To change the IP address go into the router and change the last 6 digits to something like 67:AB:11 and choose clone. Now reset the modem. if you have a built in reboot option in the router I would do that too. Just make sure you don't reset the router or else the settings will be lost. Once you reset the modem you should have a new IP address. I would do a before and after with speedtest to compare addresses.

Okay, I just did a tracert on Google and yahoo and I only get 1 hop. Why?
