Internet Stops Working after about a minute

I just built a new computer (see specs at end of post), and everything is fine except for the internet. I use dial up (No broadband in my area yet), and after connecting, the internet works for about a minute--sometimes two--then it stops working. The icon in Connection Manager doesn't say the connection is lost or disconnected, but webpages start to time out and cease to work in Firefox and IE.

Can anyone help me with this problem? I know it's not the cable or the phone line, because it works fine with my dell laptop. I'm not sure if it could be the modem or not, the AOPEN is brand new from NewEgg to replace another modem which had the same problem.

Specs:
Asus A8V
Winchester 3200 @ 2.5 GHz
1 GB Corsair Value Ram
ATI AIW 9600XT
ASUS DVD-ROM
Nec 16x DVD Burner
WD 80GB (w/ 8MB Cache)
AOPEN 56k "FM56-SVV" Modem

Try letting the modem connect and then leave it alone for say 5 minutes transfer nothing, then see if the connection stays up. Before I switched to DSL I had the same issue, and Ive read about it for others, some ISPs seem to have trouble with v92 modems, thats what did it on mine, I had to find a v90 modem. Supposedly it had to do with v92s ability to change the connection rate on the fly.
