To RASHEED NP,

A little google work gives me the impression that menatelcom uses wireless tower signals similar to the USA's 3 and 4 G data for the internet. And in fact I saw an ad for a 4G modem although I assume you may still be on 3G type technology.

I can refer you to a link that shows various ways to improve your modem's received signal in terms of external antennas and signal amps. And how to find RSSI and signal noise ratios which is a measure of the signal strength. I will apologize for the crass commercialism of the web site, but its still a good place to learn about wireless issues.

As many have found buying an external antenna or signal amp improves their internet speed, but if your problem is an overloaded tower, there may be little you can do about it. You can also get good clues by a simple ping command. As soon as pings greatly exceed 250 MS, any hope of fast data speed is lost.

PM me if you need more information.

What speed are you paying for?

How large is Internet bandwidth in your country? Are you on dial-up, or DSL/Cable?

Be better to start with

1) What Internet package are you paying for?

and

2) Can you post a link to a speedtest?

Me personally I have a 75mbit Fibre Op connection. I get around 9500 kb/sec download speeds on average.

Whoops and my total mistake, I booked marked the link and forgot to post it.

But here it is.

http://www.evdoforums.com/

I suggest you go to the 3G store, antennas, and how to do a site survey.

Or hopefully this link will take you straight to it.

http://3gstore.com/page/13_will_an_antenna_help_me.html

Like I say, I may not like the crass commercialism of the 3G store, but still reading back posts and lurking can teach you a lot about wireless internet data technology, and also maybe how to talk with your local internet providers tech support department.

But still don't knock 400 kbits/sec down, before a 3G provider built a local tower near me in late 2009, I was stuck on dial up at a whole 40 Kbits/sec. And now that I have 4G, my internet speeds have improved about 10X over 3G.

Knowledge is power in terms of making wise consumer choices, lack of knowledge makes us all weak.
