Internet Speed Tweaks in Linux...

I once had a few tweaks for Windoze that would alter my MTU and TTL, etc. to increase the download speed on my DSL line. It seemed to work fairly well (~10% increase). Can I edit my MTU and all that good stuff in Linux w/o getting into the kernel and messing w/ source code? Does anyone do this?

actually you can easily change them. its a option with the ifconfig setup. if this is a ppp setup then you'll insert lines into /etc/ppp/options
