Internet Speed Downloading

Aimster

Lifer
If I download one file from site A I get 1.4MB/s

If I download 6 files at once I get 1.4MB/s then it drops down to around 600KB/s after 10 seconds.

what is the cause of this? My router?

I check using DU Meter

Does that one file maintain a 1.4MB/s download rate? It sounds like your describing Comcast's PowerBoost; the first xxMB of a sustained download sequence are done at 2x the provisioned bandwidth (if extra bandwidth is available) to improve the download download time of small files.

It is a combo of the way the system throttles on the ISP side + an artifact that inflict many applications that measure transfer.

Transfer is measured by the application taking few reading at the time (each application might use it own sampling windows size) and averaging them by dividing with the windows time span. At the beginning there is not enough info and the time span is very short so it resulting in false outcome.
