Internet Slows/Dies on WAN when I (wireless) browse

Hello,

I moved into an apartment where the service used is SBC DSL, the modem is probably at least 8 years old! Well he has a wireless netgear router a friend game to him. We hooked up the router to the DSL modem and I bought a Alink Wireless PC Card.


Whenever I'm home and start browsing my roommate says his connection slows down or dies completely (he is directly connected to the PC).

The DSL is a 1.5/384 connection

Is it the speed of the connection and should we upgrade to 3 / 768
or
Is there a configuration I need to alter?
