Internet sharing?

I have my two computers networked, one for me and one for the wife and kids. Is there a way to set it up so the kids can't get on the internet without me or my wife typing in a password for them? (We don't trust them on the internet while we're not home) But I still want them to be able to play on the computer.

Yeh, I thought of that, or I can just disable it on my system cause it's password protected. But I'd rather have a password for their internet incase I forget to dissable it.

how about creating a different user account for the kids in windows xp so that they dont have priviledges for any type of networking. Make sure they get a user account and you get an administrator account.

There is a variety of programs called LockEXE (or a similar names), look at the shareware sites (some are free some very low cost).

This type of programs allows you to turn any EXE file to a password protected file.

Password protect EXPLORE.EXE and they will not be able to start the browser.

are you insane? Explore.exe does a whole lot more than just internet browsing. My Computer=Explorer, Control Panel=Explorer, network neighborhood=explorer, etc. etc. etc.

A better solution would be a third party software package that integrates with explorer. An even better solution than that (if you are running windows2k/XP) is to have a seperate username/pass for the kids (alone), parents, and then an "internet" logon. On the kid's logon, you can disable network access altogether through a system policy. Anyway, that's getting really involved. I would probably get a third party software to take care of it.

For some reason when Explorer locks up, and I have to kill it via the Task Manager, it takes down the explorer bar, too. Which makes me think that the two processes are related, and thus IMHO using some third party tool to lock one of them would be a rather silly idea.

Go with the software that integrates with IE to offer password protection, and hope they don't learn about Mozilla.

LOL, I made a mistake in the pasting of the file name above.

Windows has two files.

IEXPLORE.EXE which is about 91K, it only purpose is to start the process of the Internet browsing.

A second file name explorer.exe about 1M is a crucial file that is in charge of many OS management functions.

In most cases when there is, a freeze explorer.exe will freeze and thus the task bar will stop working.

The file that I suggest to ? password lock? is the IEXPLORE .EXE (I omitted the ?I? but it does not read explorer.exe).

I use this trick for long time and it works well with both Win98, and WinXP.
