i have a business pc that has a both wired and wireless nic. running win2k, connectivity to the internet is thru the wired nic, which gets its connection from a router in the building.

what i wanted to do is share my internet connection with a wireless laptop, but for the life of me couldn't get the connection to work. the laptop runs winxp home.

i checked the sharethis internet connection box on the wired nic, but still was unable to get any internet on the laptop. i WAS able to share files so that wasn't a problem.

what was i doing wrong?

So your trying to connect your Laptop to your PC (Which has Wired Internet Access) via wireless cards?

If so, the reason your only able to share files and such is because you have to setup your PC's wireless card as an Access Point.then you would need to install some "Internet Sharing Software" on the PC in order for the Laptop to have internet connection.

(I believe 2k/XP has ICS "Internet Connection Sharing" built in.but not sure how well it works for this type of setup)

And the PC would have to be on at all times while using the internet with the Laptop. With the Internet Sharing Software running.

Software Access point is what they call it i think.

This may help - Its for XP but you should be able to get an idea from it with 2K

If thats how your setup is right now.

Actually no, you don't setup a machine as an AP. Well if your running linux and apparantly Asus has some software that will emulate an AP. If your going wireless card to wireless card run then in Ad Hoc.
