I have a network of 2 PC's. I have and Internal PCI DSL Modem. Also have 1 NIC card on the server and 1 nic card on the client. I'm using a switch in between. The network in working fine but I have 2 problems.

1. The Client PC keeps disconnecting from the internet. (DSL Connection)

2. The Server PC when surfing the net hangs for about 30 seconds between pages.

The internet sharing program that I'm using is Allaboard.

Any ideas of what the solution might be. Also any takes on the best possible internet sharing program that I can get free.

Thanks

hmmm a switch huh....most of the ics that I heard usually uses two networks cards for the server and one for the client....maybe the switch technique forces the computer not being able to set the difference between the lan and wan? I thought the client needs a seperate ip to the net and a seperate private ip so the client can recognzie

Actually I got it to wrk on the client without disconnecting. The only problem I have is that the server hangs when surfing. But everything is working fine, the network is working the printer is working for both pc's, etc.

This is the way I have it set up.

DSL line goes into my PCI Internal modem >>>> Lan card from server connected to a Linksys switch and Client LAN card connected to the switch. SO far everything is working.

The onl;y problem is what I mentioned before, while browsing on the server the internet hangs.

"hanging" will always occure when you put another "hop" (router/server) in between a client and what the client is trying to get through the server/router onto the next side. which sometimes, this hange is almost no time whatsoever, and sometimes it can be a few seconds,... so what i am saying is, reinstall server with minimum installation (sounds like some program is making your computer not respond to the incoming internet feed) or it might be dsl problem ( i heard dsl and sometimes cable hanges because of isp) (my t1 does that all day long, all day strong.... for about 5-10 minutes, then i can get back online)

can the client print while he cannot get to the intenret? if he cannot, that means your dhcp cleint or maybe dhcpd isn't working properly (does the problem resolve when you restart your computer?) check winipcfg or ipconfig on client to see if it gets an ip that doesn't conflick with another computer or even an ip . you can always make the lease time of your dhcpd longer and that will help if either your dhcpd or dhcp cleint isn't working as it should. if you use windows,..... like it sounds like... i am sorry :) this wouldn't happen in linux and if it did, it would be easier to fix ( i would either change the lease time to long time or many other things)...

see if you can ping your server from client when you cannot get on intenret

Riskhk, I think you misread his post. He has an internal dsl modem where his internet conects to his server then one PCI card out to the switch and into the client.

Maxfly, is the server a Windows machine? Can you use ICS with an internal DSL modem? If so I would just use it as it seems to work pretty solid for the systems I have set up that way.
