Internet sharing - a few questions... (links inside)

Just got home from college and this 56k internet is killin' me. We've got another computer in the house with cable internet and I've convinced my dad to let me share the connection. I've got a couple questions though:

1) In short, which router? I don't really wanna go wireless (routing cable is not a problem), but other than that, I'm not sure what to look for... Linksys? D-Link? What's a good brand?

2) Where's the best place to get ethernet cable? CAT5 or CAT6? I need more than 50ft... found these at newegg:

3) Finally, is it necessary to have Win98se for networking? My computer runs WinXP Home, but the other computer is currently running Win98 (not Second Edition).

1. When it comes to Wired Routers it does not matter buy the most inexpensive you can buy of the Brand names.

However if you have special Firewall needs you should make sure that the Router provide4s them.

2. The prices in the pages you linked to are good.

3. Win98 would work with WinXP Pro.

Uh, does that mean Win98 and XP Home will not work together?

This D-Link router is at Best Buy for $20 after mail-in and instant rebate. Any good?

Also, if anyone knows any place that sells cable for less, let me know.

And this is the cable I'm thinking about getting, though I'm not sure if CAT6 is necessary.

It will work with WinXP Home as well.

The D-Link Router is fine (Staples has this week Netgear Wireless Router for $9.99 after rebate).

You do not need CAT6, CAT5e will do very well.

I got the D-Link router from Best Buy, hooked it up and it's working perfectly. Now I'm just waiting for the ethernet cable to get here so I can connect my other computer.
