I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or not but i'll give it a shot.

Ok around Christmas time I noticed that while surfing the internet, just doing normal every day things like checking e-mail, looking at this forum, anything that has to do with IE or Mozilla my speeds are real touchy. For example i'll start a browser (doesn't matter which one) and my home page will load. I'll click on a few bookmarks everything is loading nice and fast, then i'll click on link or bookmark and it just sit there. Sometimes it will even time out. Other times the page loads like its on dial up. As I said this happens with both IE and Mozilla. Last week I replaced my 60gb HDD and reinstalled XP pro on this new 200gb but it still gives me problems.

I've been in this apartment since August and it started happening right around Christmas time. I'm on a router with 1 other computer connected to it. I've always had this setup. I'm on Road Runnner Cable 3mb down and 1.5mb up or something like that. I've tried just connecting my computer to the modem and still have the problem

Here is the odd thing. When i'm downloading a file the kb/sec don't move. They usualy start out pretty high around 600kb/sec but then come down and settle right at 355kb/sec. Also I see no quality loss or increase in my PING while i'm gaming.

I've updated my NIC card drivers, i'm on XP pro, SP1. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions let me know. Thanks.

No, it just started around Christmas. Since then I formatted a new hard drive I got for Christmas and loaded up my OS on it but I still get the touchy internet.

well first of all XP SP2 is out i would first say upgrade.

second of all it could be a DNS server problem. find the latest dns servers for your isp and set them in the router as well as in your network connection local area connection.

and lastly i would try a reg patch from speedguide.net meant to load webpages faster. makes it so 10 connections are open per IE or whatever.

Thanks I'll give that a try. How would I got about finding out the latest DNS Servers for my ISP?
